Non-alcoholic energy drinks are in great demand: to cheer up after a sleepless night, to increase concentration before an important meeting or exam. Most of these drinks are based on caffeine, sugar or glucose, aromas, vitamins and other, in general, quite useful substances aimed at quickly and effectively increasing efficiency. Even if it’s for a short time.

For example, taurine is an important amino acid that provides energy, necessary for proper neural connections. Caffeine (can sometimes be replaced by theine or mateine, caffeine-like substances) can quickly increase concentration and invigorate. Theobromine, which is found in cocoa beans, is close to caffeine in its properties and effects on the body.

But as Rospotrebnadzor experts warn, the threat is in the concentration of these substances. With frequent use of energy drinks, the nervous and cardiovascular systems suffer, this does not pass without a trace, writes the official Rospotrebnadzor telegram channel. You can drink them, but not a large can – after the end of the energy drink, the body needs rest to restore resources. You should not drink energy drinks after sports, so as not to cause severe dehydration.

The negative effects of energy drinks are especially aggravated during the heat.

“If one can, drunk in the morning in the cold, is unlikely to harm, then two, and even in the heat, can already seriously affect the cardiovascular system,” warns nutritionist Lyudmila Denisenko. – The caffeine contained in such drinks not only stimulates the nervous system, but also increases the heart rate and increases the pressure in the vessels. This is especially dangerous after physical exertion and in the heat. Also, don’t forget that caffeine is a strong diuretic. And in the heat, the body already loses a lot of water. In addition, energy drinks contain a lot of sugar, which will only cause thirst, so it is simply impossible to get drunk on energy drinks. And, of course, neither in the heat nor at any other time of the year should you mix energy drinks with alcohol: this can lead to a hypertensive crisis.
