ERC aligns itself with Junts and demands the transfer of Rodalies and greater financing

Date: September 8, 2024 Time: 05:38:09

The number 2 of Esquerra Republicana de Cataluña, Teresa Jordà, has indicated in a press conference that the conditions of her formation to support the socialist candidate and current acting president, Pedro Sánchez, go through the transfer of ‘Rodalies’, review the regional financing and the dialogue table, according to Europa Press.

The results of the Republicans in the general elections this Sunday have not been good, as Jordà has confessed. Neither for the Republicans nor for the independence movement as a whole have they been beneficial. In this way, he has regretted the loss of seats from 13 to 7 deputies. Teresa assumes the “risk to the extreme right”, which according to her has motivated the vote for Spanish progressive parties.

The vote loan option, which has been used in previous legislatures, could also be viable with the support of the PSOE or Sumar, formations that, if they want to repeat their government coalition, will use the support of ERC and, at least, the abstention of Junts.

ERC’s support for the PSOE to form a government

ERC and Junts have won seven seats each, so one possibility could consist of convincing the Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG), which has removed one deputy, to form a group between the three. They would add a total of 15 seats, and as they went up they would be constituted as a group without concern for the percentage of vote that they have added in each constituency.

In this way, the Galician nationalists could also avoid the Mixed Party, which, otherwise, they will have to share with the Canarian Coalition and the Union of the Navarro People, formations that have each achieved one act. The representative of the BNG, Néstor Rego, must decide if he compensates him for a temporary loan, that is, to go to the Mixed once ERC and Junts constitute their group, or to permanently share space with the Catalan independentistas.

They can also resort to Bildu, which for the second legislature in a row may have its own group in the Lower House. The Abertzale left has obtained six deputies and exceeds 15% of the votes in the three Basque provinces and in Navarra. EH Bildu could lend a deputy to ERC and Junts so that they believe that their group reaches the minimum of 15 and then return to theirs.

The vote loan option, which has been used in previous legislatures, could also be viable with the support of the PSOE or Sumar, formations that, if they want to repeat their government coalition, will use the support of ERC and, at least, the abstention of Junts.
