In addition, the cost of olive oil skyrocketed in the second half of last year: in August it increased by 37% compared to the same period in 2022, Interfax reports.
Last September this trend accelerated to 44%, in October to 50% and in November to 51%. Some slowdown occurred in December, when prices were 47% higher than in December 2022.
In January this year, all EU countries announced an increase in olive oil prices.
The largest annual price increase was recorded in Portugal (69%), Greece (67%), Spain (63%) and Estonia (52%).
Olive oil prices rose the least in Romania (13%), Ireland (16%) and the Netherlands (18%).
