Alberto Núñez Feijóo has come forward to defend his candidacy for the Government of Spain and has accused Pedro Sánchez of blocking it because he is “under pressure”. The leader of the PP has been convinced that King Felipe VI will entrust him with the task of forming a government after having won the elections, something that “he has always done” and that he says that “I have no doubt that the King will act as has always done, according to the law”.
The ‘popular’ leader has added in full meeting of the Parliamentary Groups of the PP in Congress and the Senate, that this will happen because the King will exercise his constitutional powers. Thus, he has made the acting president ugly, who has demanded that Feijóo stop “pressuring” the head of state by offering an investiture that has no support and that is only based on “magic cabals”, his words, assuring that “it gives him the feeling” that “he has the pressure and the problems”.
During his speech, the ‘popular’ president insisted that the PP won the general elections on July 23 and is the majority party in Parliament. “We have won 87 parliamentarians and the PSOE has 21 less, the results of the elections are clear,” he stressed. For this reason, he has warned of the possibility of “a real blockade” and of the “risk” of a government “weaker and more divided than in the last legislature.” In contrast, he has offered a “useful, serene and serious policy.”
Bet on Cuca Gamarra for Congress
The president of the PP also announced this Wednesday that his party’s candidate for the Presidency of Congress will be general secretary of the formation and until now parliamentary spokesperson, Cuca Gamarra. This was revealed by Feijóo during his first speech before the PP deputies and senators elected on July 23, who met in Congress on the eve of the constitution of the new Chamber, which this Thursday will vote for the members of his Table for the XV Legislature.
The ‘popular’ leader has advanced that the PP will try to place Gamarra as the third authority of the State, who will have to compete for the position with the socialist candidate, the former president of the Balearic Islands Francina Armengol. On the other hand, to compose the table, he has proposed Marta González on the side of the deputies; Jose Antonio Bermudez de Castro; Guillermo Mariscal and Carmen Navarro. For the Senate he has appointed Pedro Rollán; that he would be accompanied by Javier Maroto and Eva Ortiz.
