George RR Martin announced that he had discontinued his partnership with HBO on June 1. The reason was the strike of Hollywood screenwriters and actors. The writer stressed that the actions do not concern eminent screenwriters, producers or showrunners. He writes about it Term.
“Most of them are fine. We’re on strike for fledgling writers, editors, students hoping to make it big, actors with four lines, guys in their first full-time job who dream of one day doing their own show like I did in the ’80s,” Martin added.
According to the writer, he himself has been a member of the writers’ union since 1986. He calls the current protest the most important in his life, adding that it will be long and fierce.
As for the second season of House of the Dragon, Martin said that all the scripts were completed months before the writers’ strike began. Since then, no writing work has been done.
“House of the Dragon is primarily filming in London (with a bit in Wales, Spain and elsewhere) so filming is continuing. The actors are members of the British union Equity, not SAG-AFTRA, and while Equity strongly supports their American counterparts, British law prohibits them from going on strike,” the writer said.
Earlier, George RR Martin shared new details about the Game of Thrones prequel. The working title of the project is “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”. We talk about it in more detail here.
