Between calls for advertising reasons and the numbers that we have lost with phone changes, it is very likely that we will find some unattended loss on our smartphone. What can be done in these cases? We can wait, again, for a call from this unknown number to be able to attend to the issuer and discover his identity, although it is possible that the person does not call again and we are left with the doubt.
Another option is to return the call, something we can do when, for example, we imagine who might be the owner of the phone number. This possibility, however, does not have a great acceptance among people, since having to face an unknown number is not a very pleasant scenario. Also, in the event that it is a switchboard or company number, it is possible that the call does not even connect.
The third option is to use one of the methods that we describe below to discover the identity of the person who has called us and, thus, find out if it is someone we know, if it is a company with which we are interested in contacting or, finally, oh , it is a spam call.
Methods to know the identity of a telephone number
The first option is to download some phone tracking app. For example, the most popular are Truecaller and Hiya. These applications are free and work for different operating systems. Before a call, what they do is notify the recipient of the same person who is behind the unknown phone number.
If we do not want to download any app on our mobile, we can apply a very simple homemade trick. If the number is a mobile, we can book it and look for it on WhatsApp. With any luck, we will be able to see their profile photo and try to locate the person to find out if we know them or not. You can also search for a fixed number in Google, since if it belongs to a registered company or business it will give us the result, for example, Google Maps, allowing us to know who it is.
How to know if a phone number is spam
We can always go to the online lists of spam numbers where we can find out if the phone that has called us is registered. You can also do the same as in the previous step: search for the phone number in a search engine and see if the results point to spam.
On the other hand, we can use the option on Android phones through the Settings to directly block phone calls detected as spam or to notify us when they call us. This option is not available on iPhone, although it is possible to silence calls from numbers that we do not have saved in the phonebook. To avoid spam calls on Apple phones, we must download one of the applications that we have mentioned in the previous paragraph.
