The Last of Us creator Craig Mazin has said the post-apocalyptic show could have four seasons. According to him, the story of The Last of Us Part II cannot be told in one season.
In nine episodes of the first season, The Last of Us revealed all the main events of The Last of Us game. The plot of the second season will be based on the sequel The Last of Us Part II, which turned out to be much bigger than the original. In the second part of the game series, there are many flashbacks and several new heroes.
One of the central characters is Abby, the daughter of a surgeon who Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, killed in the season 1 finale to save Ellie, played by Bella Ramsay. Craig Mazin and co-creator Neil Druckmann said in March that the second season would not cover the entire story of The Last of Us Part II. According to them, the series needs several seasons. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mazin added that it takes around four to fully port the game:
“We have presented to HBO our vision for why this series should be multi-season instead of one. As a result, there may be three or five of them. But four seems like a good number,” the show’s creator shared.
