The trips of the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (Imserso) are highly valued among pensioners, who eagerly await the arrival of summer to enjoy a few days of disconnection and leisure. The Imserso tourism program is a travel proposal offered by Social Security to retirees over 65 years of age, giving them the opportunity to travel throughout the country at affordable prices.
Imserso trips are an excellent way to explore various places in our geography, both in inland destinations and in coastal areas. However, it is important to note that not all applications are accepted, so it is useful to know the alternatives in case you do not get a place on these trips.
A couple of weeks ago, after a long wait, the General Directorate of the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services moved the tab and gave rise to a new edition of Imserso’s trips. The registration period for pensioners and retirees who wish to take advantage of the Tourism Program discounts began with a variety of destinations available for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.
This new edition of the Imserso program brings with it several novelties, the most notable being the expansion of the offer to all the provinces of Spain and the increase in available places. Despite choosing this growth, Imserso trips maintain their essence by continuing to offer more affordable prices, with the possibility of hiring transport or not to reach tourist destinations.
According to the Official State Gazette (BOE) published on Monday, June 26, a total of 886,269 places were called for those who wish to enjoy the Tourism Program, and the first trips are scheduled for October. It must be taken into account that not all requests for Imserso trips are accepted.
What to do if you have run out of places for the Imserso?
There are several reasons why a request to enjoy Imserso trips can be denied. Such as not meeting the necessary requirements to access the program, such as being a pensioner due to retirement, being over 60 years of age or, if not, being considered a pensioner from the age of 58. Apart from these essential requirements, it may also be that you do not have a place in the chosen destination due to not reaching the minimum points required or not having submitted the application on time.
Although the deadline of May 18 to submit the application has passed, there is still an opportunity to enjoy the Imserso tourism program between the months of September and December. The public body allows citizens to sign up for a waiting list in the event that not all the places are completed this year or if there are people who give up on them. Those who are on the waiting list and have not obtained a place in previous calls will have priority if places are released. However, it is important to note that being on the waiting list does not guarantee acceptance.
In the event of not having obtained a place in the Imserso trips, the alternative offered by the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services is to register on the waiting list to take advantage of possible vacancies in destinations that have become available due to resignations. It is an opportunity to opt for a position released by resignation, although there is no guarantee of being selected.
