The Screen Actors Guild of America SAG-AFTRA was ready to resume negotiations with the Alliance of Film and Television Producers and end the strike. However, they refused to negotiate again.
“We want to get back to the job we love. We are ready to resume negotiations and have asked the AMPTP to come to the negotiating table. They refused,” SAG-AFTRA wrote.
The day before, Deadline reported that studio executives hope to negotiate with the National Association of Theater Owners to influence SAG-AFTRA under the pretext that a prolonged strike could actually harm not only the movie business, but also the movie screening itself, which is only improving after the COVID-19 pandemic.
On June 25, Bryan Cranston gave a speech at an actors’ strike rally in Times Square. The actor turned to Disney boss Robert Iger and noted that in ten years the industry has changed, and managers “fight tooth and nail with them” for the old order.
