“As shown by the results of our analytical study, in which 1,020 fitness club managers from 85 regions of the country participated, in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, there was an average increase in expenses for the main articles in Russia in these organizations by 30 percent,” said Elena Silina, President of the National Fitness Community. “Thus, 67 percent of respondents reported that their rental costs increased by 10 percent, another 27 percent of respondents recorded an increase of 10 percent. 10 to 20 percent.”
Spending on consumables and equipment maintenance in gyms has also increased significantly. The National Fitness Community added that the overall situation is aggravated by low profit margins: the industry average is around 8 percent compared to 15 percent five years earlier, i.e. in the pre-pandemic period.
Representatives of the fitness industry are trying to minimize costs. In particular, they negotiate with landlords to stabilize rental prices, look for new service providers, and rely on customization.
“But these measures are not enough,” says Elena Silina. “In this regard, to compensate for the possible slowdown in the development of the industry, we propose to provide for a one-time reimbursement from the federal budget. costs for the first half of 2024. The introduction of these measures will stabilize the situation in the industry during the summer low season by offsetting part of the working capital.”
