How to protect yourself from extreme heat – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

So what to do in case of abnormally hot weather? General recommendations include the following: try to stay in the shade longer, avoid direct sunlight, especially between 11 am and 4 pm; drink boiled water (2.5 – three litres per day), cooled to room temperature, or cold green or black tea acidified with lemon. It is best to avoid carbonated and alcoholic drinks. “To protect yourself from the heat, wear a hat and light, loose clothing made from natural fabrics,” stresses the RCHC. “Clothes made from synthetic materials can cause skin diseases.”

A good way to refresh the body and relax, as noted in the center, is swimming. However, this type of recreation also requires mandatory compliance with restrictions. In particular, one should never drink alcohol or swim where it is prohibited.

By the way, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has already reminded Kyrgyz people of the rules of safe behaviour on the water several times. “Open waters do not forgive frivolous behaviour,” the department warned.

The RCHC also discussed measures that will help prevent intestinal infection. In hot climates, these recommendations are especially relevant.

– Wash your hands often and thoroughly with soap: after returning home from the street, before eating, while preparing food, after going to the toilet and using public transport. Before eating vegetables, fruits and berries, wash them thoroughly under running water. Keep the kitchen clean and do not accumulate food waste. Clean your home in a timely manner, especially in bathrooms, using disinfectants, as hot weather creates good conditions for mass reproduction of flies carrying pathogenic microbes. Observe hygiene rules when preparing hot and cold food, expiration dates and storage conditions for food products, especially perishable ones. Raw food and prepared food should be stored separately, the RCHC advises.

According to the centre, older people, who are at risk, are the most affected by the heat. These include patients with diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, people with high blood cholesterol levels and a hereditary predisposition to cardiovascular diseases, and overweight people.

– To prevent the exacerbation of the disease, it is necessary to undergo tests and take medications prescribed by the attending physician in a timely manner; measure blood pressure and blood sugar levels; avoid heavy physical work in hot weather; when relaxing in nature, use sunscreen, the Republican Center for Health Promotion explained.
