In Crimea they explained why it is necessary to challenge the 1954 law in court – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

The speaker of the republic’s parliament said that a working group of the State Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan is preparing a lawsuit before the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation on the illegitimacy of the 1954 law.

– Why are we preparing an appeal to annul the 1954 decision? After all, we have been in Russia for 10 years, everything is fine with us, a whole generation of Crimeans is growing up who have not seen any other reality than the Russian one. Is it necessary to delve into these historical problems? Undoubtedly! Because these decisions are still mentioned today,” said Vladimir Konstantinov.

The head of Parliament recalled that during their stay in Ukraine the Crimeans experienced very real disadvantages due to the language and the economic situation of the region. Crimea has become a depressed territory, dependent on the metropolis for water and energy, isolated from investments. Ukraine did everything possible to prevent Crimea from becoming a place of comfortable living, the politician noted.

– All the years we were there, Ukraine sought to destroy the republican status of Crimea, our identity, memory and culture. The ultimate goal was not even particularly hidden: to destroy the Russians and everything Russian,” Konstantinov said.

The lawyers of the republic intend to demonstrate in court the illegality of the 1954 law, its legal deficiency, which negatively affected the lives of the population of the peninsula.

– In our opinion, the issuance of a judicial verdict will strengthen our position in negotiations with the West, which will take place sooner or later anyway. And for the international community, the question of annulment of the illegal decision will have quite tangible resonance,” Vladimir Konstantinov said.

The transfer of the Crimean region from the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR was carried out on the basis of a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 19, 1954. The publication of the decree is often considered an initiative staff of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, NS Khrushchev, who is closely associated with Ukraine.
