It was established that these citizens bought old foreign cars, as a rule, long out of production. Rare and expensive parts are needed to repair them. In some cases, the market value of the parts to them is close to the price of the car itself. The scammers staged fake accidents and received large insurance payouts.
Several similar accidents interested the security service of one of the insurance companies, whose representatives turned to the police. As a result of the operational search activities, the alleged fraudsters were detained by the criminal investigation department with the support of the National Guard.
On account of the suspects several dozen episodes of criminal activity. The damage caused to insurance companies amounted to more than 20 million rubles.
The detainees were seized by the police cars that intervened in the accident, documents, including those prepared to receive the new insurance payments, and money. As well as elements that will serve as proof in the future.
With regard to three defendants, a measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen, for two – in the form of a written commitment not to go out and appropriate behavior. Work is underway to identify all episodes and accomplices of illegal activities, Irina Volk said.
