The Chizhovsky courtyard suffered significant destruction in 2000: then all buildings in the depths of the courtyard were demolished, except for the one adjacent to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, built in 1691.
Now the temple remains in place, the rest of the territory will undergo large-scale reconstruction. The developer is implementing the Nicole project here. As noted on the company’s website, “the project was created in collaboration with legendary British architects and is a residence complex striking in its beauty and delicacy.”
British architect Thomas Heatherwick decided to add a roof along Nikolskaya Street in the form of scales and it will reportedly not be visible to pedestrians.
Now pedestrians can see the new fence being installed around the courtyard and the brick facade of the building built by the first merchant guild Gavriil and Alexei Chizhov in 1847. Although the building is almost two centuries old, it does not It has the status of cultural heritage. This allows the developer to avoid a lot of restrictions.
Previously it became known that the bas-reliefs from the beginning of the 20th century, which were on the facade of the store of the perfume company Ralle and Co., were dismantled from the building. They will be restored, but it is unknown where exactly they will be installed later.
