This year, the competitions received the status of interregional competitions: a group of children from the Sverdlovsk region came to the Southern Urals. In addition, pupils of children’s sailing schools from Chelyabinsk, Miass, Ozersk, Snezhinsk, Magnitogorsk, as well as adult sailing enthusiasts from the cities of the Chelyabinsk region, Yekaterinburg and Ufa traditionally gathered in Uvildy. Children started from the water area of the recreation center “Red Stone”, adults – from the yacht club “Mirage”.
Athletes from 9 to 16 years old competed in the regatta on yachts of the “Optimist”, “Cadet” and “Rocket-270” classes over two days. The awarded places were for children from Yekaterinburg, Magnitogorsk, Miass, Snezhinsk and Chelyabinsk. Teams of sailors from Chelyabinsk and Yekaterinburg got on the adult podium.
A feature of the Governor’s Cup competition is expensive sails as prizes for winners among children’s yacht classes, allowing talented young athletes to reach a new level. Sailing is an intellectual sport that develops strategic thinking, confidence, the ability to make decisions quickly and carefully, and to anticipate weather changes. About 300 young athletes train in sailing schools in the Chelyabinsk region. They participate in all-Russian sorties.
There is a growing interest in amateur boating among adults as well. The head of the organizing committee of the competition, the director of development of the Mirage yacht club, Elena Nardelli, pointed out the trend of uniting colleagues and families in teams: , as well as members of families of different generations.Everyone can try and join. The chief judge, an experienced Kirill Bazuev, in the interests of the safety of children, made the wise decision to stop the children’s competition in advance and organized the timely escort of young athletes to a safe anchorage, and adult athletes removed the sails, waited for a squall and a downpour on the water, after which they continued the competition.
