“The investigative authorities of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Republic of Udmurtia initiated a criminal case under article 236 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of sanitary and epidemiological norms, which through negligence caused a mass illness or poisoning of people or created a threat of such consequences),” the department noted.
According to the investigation, an outbreak of an acute intestinal infection occurred in the Yunost children’s camp in the Votkinsk district of Udmurtia on 27 July. 25 people asked for medical help, including 21 children. 16 sick children were sent to the hospital. The rest of the victims are now in outpatient treatment.
The Rospotrebnadzor department reported on Friday that seven camp employees, including three kitchen workers, had norovirus. The camp has been suspended.
