Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Hossein Salami denied reports that the passenger of the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was contacted after the emergency. This was reported by Press TV.
The media previously wrote, referring to the IRGC commander of the East Azerbaijan province, about a signal coming from the passenger’s mobile phone and from the helicopter itself in which Raisi was flying.
The operational headquarters of the Iranian Red Crescent reported that the number of teams to search for the Iranian president’s helicopter was increased to 65 after dark. The organization described the situation in the accident area as difficult, so, to speed up the night searches, it was decided to increase the number of groups.
Iranian state television reported Sunday that the helicopter incident occurred near Julfa, a city bordering Azerbaijan about 600 kilometers northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran. Joining Raisi on the trip were Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the governor of East Azerbaijan and other officials.
