Three Plus Two was released in 1963. The light resort comedy literally blew up the rental, hitting the top three highest-grossing films of the year. Recreation as “savages” instantly became the main trend, in the same year 3.5 million free travelers appeared in the USSR.
According to the plot, three friends come to the seashore to relax in the company of men, but unexpectedly meet two very dissatisfied strangers. The film “Three Plus Two” was shot based on the play “Savages” by Sergei Mikhalkov, who wrote the script. The film was shot together with the Riga Film Studio headed by Genrikh Oganesyan.
In the play, the characters were already over 30 years old, but the director decided to significantly rejuvenate them. He even invited novice actors to play the main roles: Andrei Mironov, Evgeny Zharikov, Gennady Nilov, Natalya Fateeva and Natalya Kustinskaya. At that time, only Fateeva was considered a famous actress.
Filming took place in the Crimea, near the village of Novy Svet. In the autumn season, the sea was already very cold, and the actors, who had to perform in summer clothes and swimsuits, were very cold. The music for the film was arranged by Raimonds Pauls, who was working as a musician in a restaurant at the time. Later he will become famous and his songs will be performed by Alla Pugacheva, Laima Vaikule and many other famous singers of the Soviet era.
Initially, the tape was assigned the second rental category. Despite this, the film has gathered 35 million viewers on the screens. The great success of the rental changed the category of the film to the first, and the actors received prize money.
