Kanye West sues Instagram user* for copyright infringement

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 06:40:11

Kanye West filed a lawsuit against an unknown Instagram user* (Meta Platforms Inc. and social networks Facebook and Instagram are banned in Russia. – Approx. BURO.) for “leaking his music to a social media platform.” The unidentified Instagram user is believed to have previously worked with the rapper. NME writes about this.

The lawsuit alleges that the person (or individuals) behind the popular @DaUnreleasedGod_ account violated copyright laws by posting several Kanye songs between March and August 2023. These songs include collaborations with DJ Khaled, a party video playlists from Donda and over 20 tracks including “We Did It Kid,” “Shy Can’t Look,” “NASDAQ” and “Mr. Miyagi.”

West and his legal team have not identified the identity or organization behind the account, but believe the individual has previously worked with the musician and violates the confidentiality agreement and contract.

The lawsuit also alleges that leaking music on social media caused “substantial harm to Kanye’s work, reputation, and potential income.” The contractor is seeking costs as well as an injunction restraining the defendants from further misappropriation, disclosure or use of trade secrets, including the reproduction, downloading, distribution, uploading, public performance or other use of its intellectual property.

Recall that previously on the BRND YouTube channel there was a short documentary about the creation of Kanye West’s Donda album, which was released in 2021.
