In June, contracts were concluded with a November deadline for both the supply of new BMP-3s and BMP-3s after repairs, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the holding’s press service. In six months of 2023, the company has assembled 95 percent of the volume of armored vehicles produced for all of 2022.
In parallel, in a few months, the plant mastered the overhaul of the BMP-2 with the modernization of the Berezhok combat module. The first batch of updated BMPs was sent to the troops in June, a month earlier than stipulated in the contract.
Berezhok’s upgraded mechanical modules have been delivered since April, also ahead of schedule. The production schedule for the second half of the year foresees an increase in production volumes by another 30 percent, said Petr Tyukov, chief executive of the Kurganmashzavod.
The Berezhok module increases the combat capabilities of the BMP-2 by about four times. It is equipped with a sight with a thermal imager, a weapon stabilizer, a fire control system and Kornet anti-tank missiles.
