The competition aims to discover new names and support young talents in the field of cinema and theater. The winner will have the opportunity to make a short film with the participation of stars of the Moscow Art Theater based on the script by actress Paulina Andreeva.

– The importance of our competition is to find young and talented directors, scriptwriters and cameramen, meet them and introduce them to the actors of the Moscow Art Theater. And then life itself will make its own assessments,” says the artistic director of the Moscow Art Theater, Konstantin Khabensky. “I think it’s great to be happy about their work.” And, of course, trying to combine cinema and theater, something that always involves a conflict of organizational interests.

This year the competition is dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin. The participants were faced with the task of making a short film on the topic “Pushkin-225” with a duration of up to 225 seconds. It’s almost 4 minutes. And this is the only limitation; otherwise, there is complete creative freedom.

193 applications were submitted from students and graduates of film universities. The list of finalists included 10 works, including the short film “Pushkin’s Fairy Tales”, directed by Grigory Leps’ eldest daughter Inga Leps.

The jury of the competition consisted of Konstantin Khabensky, Mikhail Porechenkov, Igor Vernik, Sergey Belyaev, Artem Volobuev, Kristina Babushkina, Artem Bystrov, Pavel Vorozhtsov and Victor Khorinyak. Karen Shakhnazarov became an honorary member of the jury.

The short film competition was created by the Moscow Art Theater. Chekhov last year as part of the Moscow Art Theater’s 125th anniversary celebration and was called “The Arrival of the Seagull.” Then Irina Prokhorova, a graduate of the School of Film and Television Industry, became the winner and got the opportunity to make a short film based on the unpublished script by Nemirovich-Danchenko “The Animal”.
