The president of Aena, Maurici Lucena, compared before the media to analyze the record results that the semi-public company that manages the airport network in Spain has achieved in 2023. A scenario that the president of the entity wanted to take advantage of to defend its proposal, recently approved by the competition, to apply an increase in airport fees of 4.09%, which is equivalent to 40 cents per transport passenger throughout Spain.
Asked about the need to increase fares in a context of historic profits, the President has shielded his company’s proposal from the responsibility of ensuring in the long term that Spanish airports “work as well as they are doing now.” Along these lines, Lucena has warned that if the remuneration scheme for Aena’s aeronautical activity is not adequate, “in the long term the quality of Spanish airports will suffer.”
