Last night the Met Gala 2024 Costume Institute Ball took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The vibrant social event brought together stars from the world of entertainment, cinema, sports and the world of modeling. One of the participants in the dance was Maria Sharapova. The Russian tennis player appeared on the red carpet in an unusual outfit.
The theme of this year’s Met Gala is “Sleeping Beauties: The Awakening of Fashion.” For one night, the Great Hall of the Metropolitan Museum of Art became a blooming garden. The stars wore haute couture outfits decorated with floral motifs. Sharapova chose an off-the-shoulder ensemble in youthful green. Her hair was decorated with delicate buds.

The 37-year-old tennis player’s outfit was created by Nepali-American designer Prabal Gurung. According to the designer, he came up with this dress inspired by spring flowers.
Maria usually chooses outfits in more sober tones, but here she unexpectedly opted for a bright neon shade. As fashion critics joked, the sports star “dressed the color of a tennis ball.” However, Ksenia Sobchak has a different version. “Maria Sharapova is a bit on the iceberg lettuce leaf,” the journalist mocked her on her Telegram channel.

The tennis player announced her retirement from her sports career in February 2020. And ten months later she announced her engagement to British millionaire Alexander Gilkes. The lovers began dating in 2018. Despite the birth of her son Theodore, the young parents are in no hurry to register their relationship. Alexander gave his beloved a ring with a diamond of impressive size, so the wedding is apparently not far away.
Gilkes, 44, is considered one of Britain’s most eligible bachelors. He is a member of the royal family and has been friends with Princes William and Harry since childhood. Plus, Sharapova’s boyfriend knows Russian well. Her mother Robin worked for many years at Oxford University in the Department of Russian and East European Studies.
Gilkes and Sharapova now live in New York. Alexander is the founder of an auction house, he sells works of art. Gilkes is friends with many celebrities, including Madonna and Elton John.
