The demand for this type of transport in the capital region is demonstrated by the fact that literally during the first day of operation of the third diameter, passengers made 350 thousand trips. This is 54 percent more than the previous week in the same direction. According to messages on social networks, it can be seen how eagerly Muscovites and residents of the Moscow region were waiting for the launch of the MCD-4. But some are incredulous: two projects of such magnitude in such a short time? But let us remember that the first two addresses MCD-1 and MCD-2 were opened on the same day, November 21, 2019.
The launch of MCD-3 and MCD-4 was in the plans of Russian Railways and the Moscow government for 2023-2024. Now we see that the plans were completed even earlier than planned.

Of the 39 stations, 18 are metro, MCC and other diameter interchange stations, providing passengers with 44 transfer options. The direction of the railway to Nizhny Novgorod, which until recently was the Gorky direction, is one of the busiest in the region. There are several large cities: Reutov, Balashikha, Zheleznodorozhny, Elektrougli, Elektrogorsk, Noginsk, Pavlovsky Posad, Orekhovo-Zuevo, Petushki… Most of its population goes to work in the capital. Passenger traffic in this direction exceeds 300 thousand people per day. But most of the trains still went only to the Kursky station and some to the Nizhegorodskaya station. Now Balashikha trains will not reach a dead end, as before, but on the MCD-4 track.
Then, parallel to the existing tracks of MCD-2 through the station “Ploshchad treh vokzal” (formerly “Kalanchevskaya”) and “Rizhskaya”, where a large transport hub is being built, trains will arrive at the station “Maryina Roshcha”. and then transfer to Savelovsky station. From here, through the Belorussky station, they will reach Kutuzovskaya, Poklonnaya and so on to Aprelevka, which will provide passengers with many transfer options along the entire route, saving time and money.
The Kaluga direction was also a dead end, previously the kyiv direction. Electric trains arriving from New Moscow and the Moscow region ended at the kyiv station and then passengers had to go down to the subway. Now they can travel further towards the Belorussky railway station and choose a more convenient transfer point.

Looking for a new connection
The difficulty of MCD-4 was that to open it it was necessary to connect two different directions of the Moscow railway: Kievskoye and Gorkovskoye. To do this, it was necessary to expand existing tracks and build new ones, as well as build new stations and rebuild old ones. In addition, a connecting branch line was built between the kyiv and Belarus directions, on which three new stopping points were built: Poklonnaya, Kutuzovskaya and Testovskaya.

Passengers are always more concerned about the price of the trip. Its cost depends on the diameter zone: there are three, as on the routes already operating, on MCD-4: “Central”, “Suburb” and “Dalnyaya”.

Suburb: from “Aprelevka” to ” Lesnoy Gorodok” and from the Nikolskoye station to Zheleznodorozhnaya – with the “Wallet” tariff of the Troika card – 65 rubles. There is also the rule of free transfer in 90 minutes. “Dalnyaya” – everything that is located beyond the stations “Aprelevka” and “Zheleznodorozhny”. This means that 30 rubles are added to the Suburb ticket price for each additional zone. Many residents of the capital region have already calculated that even if they get to this very remote area, they will still save significantly in travel, since they now pay not only for the train, but also for transfers to the metro, MCC and other diameters, and with the launch of the MCD-4 the way by public transport to the final destination in the capital It will be free for them.

On the basis of the former Kalanchevskaya station, a new transport hub, “Three Stations Square”, was opened in early June this year. Comfortable ticket offices, turnstiles at the exit of the platforms, toilets, rest areas, escalators… MCD-2 passengers are already making the most of it: the new station is designed for two diameters at the same time: MCD-2 and MCD-4, which are united by a common lobby. “The earliest date that the builders set for the realization of this project was the year 2025,” recalled Sergei Sobyanin during the inauguration of the “Three Seasons Square.” “From any point of view, the most difficult reconstruction of the railway infrastructure within the territory I think was ahead of one of the most complex cities in the world in the entire history of Moscow. And so they did it. A year and a half earlier than expected New tracks were built, essentially a new station, three flyovers, “Three flyovers. And all this in the center of Moscow, without blocking the movement of trains, subways or car traffic.” As a result, the largest railway transport systems in Moscow were united in one place: three central stations, two stations meter and two central diameters.

The new Serp and Molot platform for the MCD-2 and MCD-4 lines is currently being built, where the Moscow-Tovarnaya station will be moved.

Everyone wins, including motorists
According to experts, the launch of MCD-4 will free up several metropolitan metro lines that are currently overloaded. In particular, the load will be reduced on the sections of the Solntsevskaya, Filevskaya, Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya, Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya, Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya and Kalininskaya metro lines. Muscovites living in its area of influence will move to the surface metro; this can be predicted from the experience of the first diameters. Kievskoye, Borovskoye, Nosovikhinskoye and Entuziastov highways will be freer.
Traveling on the nearest highways (Novoryazanskoye, Leningradskoye, Novoyegoryevskoye, Kosinskoye and Yegoryevskoye) will also be more comfortable.
