In the 2023 admission campaign, 44,826 people were admitted to the agricultural universities of the Ministry of Education and Science. The highest scores on the Unified State Exam are for those admitted to the Novosibirsk State Agrarian University (63.1 points) and the Oryol State Agrarian University (63 points). In addition, this year the number of participants in the Olympiad has increased.

“Previously, agricultural universities were not distinguished by high USE results among applicants,” Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Dmitry Pyshny told RG about the admission results of farmers. “The increase in the score limit for agricultural universities allows them to compete with other universities of the Ministry of Education and Science on equal terms.”

What do young people who are attracted to agriculture choose today?

The leaders among this year’s applicants are the areas of information technology, biology and engineering. And the record holder of the competition was the specialty “Software Engineering” of the Perm State Agricultural and Technological University named after him. Academician DN Pryanishnikov – 21 people per place!

They actively participated in areas such as “Veterinary medicine”, “Biotechnology”, “Agrochemistry and agricultural soil science”, “Agronomy”, “Animal science”; the competition here was 12 people per place. From 6 to 13 people applied for places in the areas of “Operation of machines and transport and technological complexes”, “Electrical energy and electrical engineering”, “Technosphere security”, “Agroengineering”.

More than 60 percent of applicants submitted their applications using the super service “Online University Admission.” And the universities themselves began to widely use digital services, such as the “Online Unified State Exam Navigator”, electronic queues for applicants applying to the university, SMS for informing applicants and much more.

As noted by Dmitry Pyshny, interest in agricultural universities has been increased by the recently opened new areas and training profiles in the field of biotechnology, digitalization and robotization, genetic improvement and phytosanitary control. Early career guidance also played an important role: in each of the subordinate universities, specialized classes were opened for high school students and the continuing education model “Agriculture classes, lyceums – college – university” was used.
