“I’ll be honest: I don’t think that at the Washington summit the conditions are in place to invite Ukraine to NATO,” RIA Novosti quotes.
Last year, Ukrainian authorities hoped that the alliance’s summit in Vilnius would clarify the timing of kyiv’s accession to the organization. However, the organization did not announce any specific details. Additionally, US President Joe Biden emphasized that Ukraine will not join NATO until the conflict with Russia is resolved.
In response, Ukrainian President Zelensky publicly criticized the alliance. Western analysts noted that the Vilnius summit was a lesson in political realism for the Ukrainian authorities.
At the same time, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has already described the upcoming NATO summit in Washington as “the most ambitious” since the end of the Cold War.
