Streaming service Netflix has shared the first look at upcoming cartoon The Twits. The film is an animated adaptation of the children’s book by famous writer Roald Dahl. The premiere will be streamed in 2025. Deadline reports this.
The adaptation was directed by Oscar-nominated director Phil Johnston. He directed Zootopia and Ralph Breaks the Internet. The new animation will be the first film adaptation of Dahl’s book, which has been translated into 41 languages and sold 16 million copies worldwide.
The cartoon is about Mr. and Mrs. Tweet. According to the description, these are the most vile and vile people in the world. They own and operate an amusement park called Tweetland. When the Tweets come to power in their town, two brave orphans and a family of magical animals must become as cunning as the evil family to save the town.
“I have always been attracted to reprehensible characters. I don’t know what this says about me and I don’t want to know. The thing is, The Twits was my favorite book growing up. “I love the Tweets and their terrible antics,” Johnston said.
According to the director, he likes that the characters have no self-awareness, no personal hygiene, not even the slightest hint of human decency. “I love this cartoon because it reminds us not to let creatures like Tweets, whose default emotions are anger and revenge, win,” he added.
Previously, Netflix showed the first full trailer for the musical Matilda based on the children’s book of the same name by Roald Dahl. The role of the terrifying director of the educational institution was played by Emma Thompson. Lashana Lynch played the beloved teacher Matilda, and the girl was played by Alisha Weir.
