According to Norwegian authorities, 42 deer crossed the Russian border this year in search of better pastures and pastures, the AP reported.
The reindeer barrier along the Russian-Norwegian border was built in 1954. Its length is 150 kilometers. According to the Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture, it is necessary to renew the 7-kilometre section through which deer enter Russia. The government has already allocated $348,000 for it. Reindeer crossings from Norway to Russia can create a lot of problems. Moscow has repeatedly sent Oslo demands for compensation for damage caused by animals. For example, the management of the Murmansk nature reserve “Pasvik” reported that Norwegian deer, as a result of illegal grazing, destroyed reindeer moss worth about 420 million rubles.
Russia transfers all stray animals to the Norwegian side.
At the same time, the Norwegian authorities send them to slaughter because they fear that the reindeer “from old memory” could return to Russia and damage Norway’s budget again.
