The investigation found that Verdejo-Sánchez, along with his accomplice Luis Antonio Cádiz-Martínez, kidnapped 27-year-old Keishla Rodríguez Ortiz, who told the boxer that she was pregnant by him. The victim was then drugged, tied to a concrete block with a steel cable, and thrown off a bridge.
