One of the strongest marriages in Hollywood has fallen apart: Hugh Jackman and his wife, actress Deborra-Lee Furness, unexpectedly announced their divorce. They gave People magazine a statement: “We are fortunate to have spent nearly three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Now our route is changing. We decided to separate so that we could each look for ways to grow individually. Our family has always been and continues to be the most valuable thing to us. We begin this new chapter with gratitude, love and goodwill. “We greatly appreciate your understanding that our privacy must be respected, especially now that our family is going through a period of transition. This is the only statement any of us will make.”
Hugh and Deborah met in 1995 on the set of the Australian television series Correlli. Apparently it was love at first sight and it didn’t hurt that Deborra was 13 years older than Hugh. She was not hurt that she could not give birth to his child (all attempts to get pregnant ended in miscarriages). The couple eventually adopted two children; his adopted son Oscar Maximilian is now 23 years old and his daughter Ava Eliot is 18.
The Daily Mail found a source with knowledge of Hugh and Deborah’s personal life who said: “Their marriage was ruined by the COVID-19 pandemic. They will always be connected, they will always be together because they have children together. But in recent years, their love has become more of a friendship. “The lockdown definitely didn’t help their marriage, the relationship started to deteriorate.” The source added that the actors and screenwriters’ strike currently taking place in Hollywood has not improved the situation either. “Hugh realized that the magic that once filled their relationship was gone… They never spoke ill of each other and never would, it’s just that their time has passed and now they have resigned themselves to fate.”
The same is confirmed by another informant, who was found by the online publication Page Six: “Everything happened to them a long time ago, friends and family knew about it. There is no love triangle here, there is no third party involved. But they just became roommates.” Apparently, the breakup occurred before the beginning of 2022: then Jackman began rehearsing on Broadway for her role in the play The Music Man, and Deborra almost did not attend her husband’s rehearsals.
