Lonely Island writer Akiva Schaffer will direct the as-yet-untitled remake based on the crime comedy spoof series released in the ’80s and ’90s for Paramount. The script will be written by Shaffer, Doug Mand and Dan Gregor, the trio behind Disney+’s Emmy Award-winning hit film Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, plot details are being kept under wraps, but Neeson will play Frank Drebin, an inept and out-of-touch police detective originally played by Leslie Nielsen, who goes to great lengths to uncover the crime of the day. . Anderson will play his love interest, who combines sexuality and silliness, just like Priscilla Presley.
Paramount plans to release the film in July 2025.
The remake marks the return to the big screen of Anderson, a former Playboy model who rose to international fame in Baywatch. The 56-year-old actress made her big screen debut starring in Barb Wire, an adaptation of the Dark Horse Comics comic of the same name, which was critically acclaimed and a box office failure.
