Plague-infected ground squirrel found in Tuva – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: September 8, 2024 Time: 05:32:53

The regional government was informed of a positive PCR test result for distemper in a long-tailed ground squirrel and its habitat.

The focus of a dangerous disease was found in the Uzun-Khem tract. At the same time, the surveys showed that there are no inhabitants infected with plague in the territory. Local herders receive the appropriate vaccination annually. The stock of the necessary drug in the republic exceeds 10,000 doses.

Tuva’s Rospotrebnadzor department noted that the annual expeditions of the anti-pest station periodically identify pathogens of a particularly dangerous infection among ground squirrels.

Recall that in June there was an outbreak of anthrax on the territory of Tuva; five people have been infected.
