Police are looking for fraudsters who defrauded a pensioner from Kirov of 33.6 million rubles – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: September 19, 2024 Time: 13:24:00

On September 16, a pensioner from Kirov contacted the police and realized that she was not following instructions from government officials, but from fraudsters. The police discovered that the woman was “prosecuted” on behalf of at least three government agencies.

First, he received a call from a woman who introduced herself as a representative of a mobile operator. Then someone contacted him via Messenger and introduced himself as an employee of the State Services portal. After that, the dialogue took place on behalf of the FSB and Rosfinmonitoring employees.

“Believing this, the pensioner cashed out all her deposits in banks for a total amount of 33 million 596 thousand rubles and transferred them to the accounts that had been given to her, after which she began to wait for her money to be returned to her…” – reports the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Kirov region.

But the scammers did not stop there. They demanded that the woman sell the apartment and “insure” the proceeds from the sale. Only the real estate agent the pensioner contacted suggested that the elderly woman had become a victim of scammers and recommended contacting the authorities.

Police are currently taking steps to identify the offenders and are also reminding government employees not to use instant messaging or video communication for official calls.
