The new film by Luca Guadagnino -director of “Entirely and Completely” and “Call Me by Your Name”- will open the Venice Film Festival. The film, which was called Challengers (translated from English as “Challengers”), will be screened out of competition on Wednesday, August 30, at the Sala Grande Palazzo del Cinema (Lido di Venice), on the opening night of the festival. The main role was played by Zendaya, who played coach Tasha Donaldson. Her husband, a tennis player and former champion, is on a losing streak. To fix this, Tasha confronts him with her husband’s ex-lover and part-time best friend of hers.
Mike Feist (“West Side Story”) played the husband of the heroine Zendea, her opponent, Josh O’Connor (“Crown”, “Peaky Blinders”).
The script was written by Justin Kuritzkes, with Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor producing along with Luca Guadagnino and Zendaya.
