“When we say that the Soviet Union provided assistance to African countries in the struggle for independence, we must not forget that at that time Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union, they generally treat Ukraine well and sincerely, I want to emphasize this, they think sincerely in what would be done to end the conflict. They do it not only and not so much under external pressure, but for internal reasons,” Putin told a news conference at the Konstantinovsky Palace after the Russia-Africa summit.
Let us remember that the summit was held in St. Petersburg on July 27 and 28, and was attended by representatives of 49 countries of the continent. The Russian leader also held a series of bilateral meetings with the leaders of African countries.
