RG correspondent spoke with a volunteer at the BRICS Games – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 07:07:36

Volunteers will be represented in 15 functional areas of activity. The RG correspondent spoke with a wonderful girl, Anastasia Freyberg, a student at the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Tomsk State University, who works as a volunteer attaché and accompanies the Pakistani delegation.

Nastya, what are your responsibilities?

Anastasia: There are several volunteer positions: in the service for spectators, on sports fields and as volunteer attaches. This is exactly my area of responsibility. My responsibilities include helping with obtaining accreditations, with accommodation, attending training, sending schedules to athletes, being at competitions, helping with all organizational issues or problems that arise: for example, changing a SIM card or currency. Even if someone wants to buy a hat with earflaps or eat chak-chak, I have to arrange it.

Where and how do they teach multitasking?

Anastasia: I was already added to the recent Future Games, physical sports competitions. I loved it. I realized it was stressful, but all the wasted nerve cells were worth it. I am from the Tomsk region. There I completed my training. And in Kazan there were already functional instructions, as well as in the facilities. Yes, I already had experience, but each time there are new sensations, new emotions.

Why did you volunteer in the first place?

Anastasia: To be honest, I’m not interested in sports, I don’t follow them. But this competitive atmosphere also makes me excited. Adrenaline appears.

I also like to communicate with new people, both volunteers and myself as participants. This is a way to get out of your comfort zone, an opportunity to become more confident, try your luck and say: “Yes, I can do this, I can jump over my head!” Sometimes everyone needs that kind of reorganization. Emotions, impressions, the opportunity to travel – all these are great advantages. Kazan is a very beautiful city. And, of course, I just like to be useful to others, I like to see the delight in their eyes when I explain something to them, tell them something interesting. Words of gratitude are the best you can receive. Volunteering is an unpaid job, but it seems to me that no amount of money can cover the impressions each event leaves on you.
