Roman Kostomarov gave a penetrating interview to Lera Kudryavtseva. The skater honestly said that he was crying from helplessness. After all, nothing can be changed. At the same time, she asks not to feel sorry for him.
For the first time, Roman Kostomarov decided to talk about his illness and the amputations he suffered. Due to the development of necrosis and sepsis, the athlete underwent several operations. He now moves with the help of prosthetics.
“The hardest thing is seeing yourself on skates… When you see your legs and arms, and how perfect the human body is, and how imperfect it is now for me… This is forever now. It doesn’t matter what they do, it doesn’t matter what prosthesis they give me. This will not replace my arms and legs,” she said.
For now, Roman can’t imagine how he could live without hands. “All life is based on this. I have it in my heart that death is part of life. I really faced this,” Roman shared with Lera Kudryavtseva in the program “The Secret of a Million” on NTV.
Talking about the details of his terrible illness, Kostomarov asks not to feel sorry for him. “As soon as they start feeling sorry for me, I start crying,” the skater said.
He recalled how they were preparing him for another amputation: “I just cried and understood that there was no other way out. I was screaming, simply in pain, as if they were operating on a living person.”
