According to the draw results, Rublev’s opponent was Dominic Thiem from Austria, who until recently was among the top 10 players in the world. But, as the game showed, the Austrian is currently far from optimal form.
Rublev led the game and was able to succeed in the opening game – 6:3. In the second, Tim was able to take four games, but lost again – 4: 6. Rublev did not extend the match and gave his opponent chances, winning the third set – 6:2.
In the next round of the tournament, the Russian will have a match against the winner of the meeting between the Australian Maxim Purcell and the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori.
Aslan Karatsev completed his performance at the tournament. In the first round, he faced the experienced Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria. The Russian lost – 6:7 (3/7), 5:7, 2:6.
Ekaterina Alexandrova advanced to the second round, defeating Belgium’s Isaline Bonaventure in two sets: 6:2, 6:1. The next rival of the Russian will be the American Taylor Townsend.
And Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova lost directly to Camila Giorgi from Italy – 0:6, 1:6.
