Russia confirms the fall of the head of the Wagner Group after crashing his plane

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 06:10:36

A serious plane crash in Moscow led to the death of the head of the Wagner Group. This has been confirmed by the Russian Federal Aviation Agency. The institution has published on social networks the names of the ten people who were on board the aircraft, including a close ally of Prigozhin, Dimitri Utkin. The last few hours have been uncertain, because the country’s Federal Air Transport Agency commented ten names but did not confirm if Yevgeni Prigozhin was really present.

They have also presumed dead the leader of Wagner channels on Telegram related to the organization, including Gray Zone, which has even assured that the plane could have been shot down. The accident involved a private plane that crashed this Wednesday in the Tver region, north of Moscow, killing all ten people on board.

The plane crashed near the town of Kuzhenkino, according to the Emergencies Ministry, which has confirmed the deaths of the ten people on board, including three crew members, reports the Interfax news agency.

Prigozhin’s parade has been a constant source of speculation since he staged a rebellion against the Kremlin in June, in which his troops even advanced on Moscow. The oligarch reappeared this week in a video in which he suggested that he was in Africa.

The US stated that if it is confirmed “it would not be a surprise”

On the other hand, pending confirmation, the White House has confirmed that it is following the information regarding a plane crash in which the head of the Wagner Group could have died, and has stated that, if it is true that he was on board the aircraft, “wouldn’t come as a surprise” due to his outspoken enmity with President Vladimir Putin. US President Joe Biden Prigozhin’s name is on the official passenger list.

A spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council, Adrienne Watson, has looked back on the rebellion launched by Prigozhin just two months ago. “The disastrous war in the Ukraine led to the parade of a private army towards Moscow and now, it seems, to this,” she said, in a statement reported by CNN.
