Russia to allocate over 20 billion rubles to economic projects in Kyrgyzstan – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

“Modern geopolitical and economic challenges present us not only with difficulties, but also with new opportunities for joint growth and strengthening of relations,” said the head of the Kyrgyz government, Akylbek Japarov. – We are on the threshold of a new stage of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

In his words, the countries intend to implement “even more ambitious projects and solutions” in the near future. “These initiatives will help strengthen both states and create the basis for common prosperity,” said Akylbek Japarov. “Russia has been and will remain a strategic partner for Kyrgyzstan. Moreover, we are connected not only by economic interests, but also by centuries-old cultural, historical and social ties.”

“Last year, Russia has become one of Kyrgyzstan’s largest trading partners,” said Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Overchuk. “Our country is also one of the largest investors in the republic. There are currently 62 projects in the republic involving Russian companies worth more than $10 billion. Of course, I cannot fail to mention the role of the RKDF (Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund).

Alexey Overchuk stressed that Russia is pleased by the economic successes of Kyrgyzstan. “We see how local companies are expanding their production lines, exporting and taking advantage of the benefits of the Eurasian Economic Union,” he added.

As stated by the Government of Kyrgyzstan, energy remains one of the key areas of cooperation between the republic and Russia. Projects for the construction of small hydroelectric power plants, wind and solar power plants are already underway on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Russian side is improving and developing the gas infrastructure. It is planned to intensify work on large energy projects.

The parties are paying special attention to energy development in the regions. One such project is the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in the Talas region, which will generate around 100 million kilowatt-hours per year. The Russian investor will invest around $25 million in the project. It will be implemented by the Alliance Hydro company. The new hydroelectric power plant is scheduled to go into operation in early 2027.

According to Artem Novikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the RKDF, the results of the forum indicate that in the coming years it could become one of the leading platforms for discussion, comparable to the St. Petersburg Economic Forum and the WEF.
