“It is with great pain that we inform you… Sergei Aleksandrovich Sokolov passed away this evening,” the obituary reads.
Sergei Sokolov was born on December 23, 1954 in the city of Velikiye Luki, Pskov region. In 1974 he graduated from the conducting and choral department of the Moscow Conservatory music school and from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory in 1979.
In 1978 he worked as choir director of the Soviet Song Ensemble of Central Television and All-Union Radio. In 1979-1980 he served in the Armed Forces as choir director of the song and dance ensemble of the Moscow Military District. Later he taught at the music school of the Moscow Conservatory.
Since 1992 he has been choir director of the Alexandrov Academic Dance and Singing Ensemble and, since May 1, 2018, its main choir director.
The farewell of Sergei Aleksandrovich Sokolov will take place on September 13 at 12:00 in the Federal Pantheon of Defenders of the Fatherland of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
