Seat interrupts shifts in Martorell again due to lack of components

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 06:14:44

Seat cancels new production shifts again. Due to the lack of supply of engine components from Slovenia, the automobile company is once again suspending new production shifts at the Martorell (Barcelona) factory during the next week, with special impact on line 1.

The management of the automobile company has made this decision due to the supply problems of a supplier company that supplies different brands of the Volkswagen Group and that was greatly affected by a recent episode of floods in that country.

The Martorell plant already had to suspend production this Tuesday and now stoppages have also been agreed for next week, as confirmed by the company.

Specifically, the plant will completely stop its three vehicle production lines on Monday, September 18. Line 1 (Ibiza and Arona) will also stop on Friday, September 22; and line 3 (Audi A1) will be inactive all week. The least affected line is line 2, which assembles the Cupra Formentor and the León, the models with the most commercial output.

There is still a long way to go

Seat has assured that the Volkswagen Group “is working intensely to minimize the effects of this situation and is collaborating with the affected company so that it can fully resume production.”

The two main unions, CC.OO. and UGT, have highlighted that the production stoppages could continue for a few more weeks depending on how long it takes for the supplier company to normalize the supply of components to the Volkswagen Group.

Given this eventuality, the plants have rejected the request for an ERTE (temporary employment regulation file) to address the lack of workload.
