The rioters destroyed the Fnac supermarket, breaking down the door and attacking the police officers who came to protect the premises. Witnesses reported that more than a hundred radicals clashed with a handful of policemen on motorcycles wearing helmets. The Pomp it Up shoe store was also attacked. Looting of other shops and officers is reported. Additional special forces arrived at the scene, none of the law enforcement officers were injured.
Lausanne police reported the arrest of seven people, six of whom are minors. Only one of them, a 24-year-old, is a native of Switzerland. The six minors are three Portuguese, Somali and Bosnian girls aged 15 and 16 and three Swiss, Georgian and Serb boys aged 15 and 17. Witnesses also said that some of the attackers were “under 15 years of age.”
The riots, which spread to another country neighboring France on Saturday night, were previously reported. In Brussels, Belgium, more than 50 people were arrested for taking part in the riots.
The French Interior Ministry said 719 people were arrested by police during the incidents overnight, including 194 in Paris. French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, in a message posted at 03:00, said that the riots that continued tonight in various cities across the country have decreased in intensity compared to the events of recent days. “A quieter night thanks to decisive police action,” Darmanin wrote.
On Saturday night, an additional 45,000 officers were sent to Paris, Marseille, Lyon and other major French cities. In addition, some 7,000 officers were sent to and around the French capital. The rebels attacked cars located near the Champs Elysees. The path to elite boutiques and restaurants was blocked by special forces, including those on motorcycles.
In the Brittany city of Rennes, there were clashes with the police near the Kennedy metro station. The rioters fired firecrackers at the police.
