Eighty years ago, on August 21, 1943, at the height of the Great Patriotic War, the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR and the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks jointly adopted a resolution on the organization of 9 Suvorov schools to prepare young people for training in higher military schools. In October of the same year, the first Nakhimov naval school in Tbilisi was added to the first nine Suvorov schools.
The first cadets were the orphaned children of the fallen Red Army officers and soldiers, the children of the regiments, who were seconded from the front by units of the active army. On December 1, the school year began in all schools, on December 19, many schools received the Battle Banners of the schools, and less than 2 years later, on June 24, 1945, the “boxes” of combined battalions of 4 schools took part in the Victory Parade on Red Square in Moscow. And all these years of the existence of schools, Suvorov and Nakhimov with their beautiful uniforms aroused great envy among millions of Soviet children.
Over the past 80 years, schools have been repeatedly reorganized, moved to other cities, but the essence of the Suvorov and Nakhimov schools remained the same – they were the first school in the life of young people to educate defenders of the Fatherland. . The vast majority of graduates of the Suvorov and Nakhimov military schools connected their future life with service to the Fatherland in the USSR Armed Forces, and later in Russia. The vast majority of graduates deservedly received their state awards. Many of them received the title of Heroes of the Soviet Union (Russia).
And now in our country, in the system of pre-university education of the Russian Defense Ministry, there are 32 educational institutions: 11 Suvorov military schools, the Nakhimov Naval School and four of its branches, as well as seven presidential cadet schools and nine cadet corps. . And their number will continue to grow. On September 1, the Irkutsk Suvorov Military School will open, and in 2024 – a branch of the Nakhimov Naval School in Mariupol.
On the eve of a significant date on the 80th anniversary of the founding of schools for veterans, students, teachers and graduates of the Suvorov military and Nakhimov naval schools, the Minister of Defense of Russia, Army General Sergei Shoigu congratulated.
– Today it is an effective school for educating fully developed citizens, true patriots of Russia. An innovative educational system based on advanced pedagogical experience, combined with initial military training, provides a high level of education, instills unchanging moral values in students and lays the foundation for professional self-determination, Sergei Kuzhugetovich said. – Most of the graduates link their lives with the Armed Forces and honorably solve the most important tasks to strengthen the country’s defense capacity. Even today they show vivid examples of courage and selfless service to the Motherland, performing combat missions in a special military operation.
