Signal Festival with musicians from the US, China and Russia kicked off at Nikolo-Lenivets KXan 36 Daily News

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 08:33:37

After all, Signal in the Kaluga region is also the main festival of Russian electronic music – its composers and performers. On the other hand, it is also a celebration of DJs, dance and club music culture. And so, Signal will end only late at night on Sunday, August 20.

Fresh ideas, engineering inventions, new timbres and loops, and most importantly, the original combination of electronic music with live instruments, in our music of 2023, again a lot. That’s why 200 artists, bands and DJs perform at the festival. And in Nikolo-Lenivets, among all its art objects, towers and design projects, seven stages have already been installed!

From Thursday evening, the Signal festival hosts concerts, performances, dance parties and master classes – composers, sound producers and DJs. In some sections they end after midnight, in others, almost at two in the morning. Well, on the Mobius and Signal stages, the sets don’t stop until morning.

Yes, the musical life at this festival never stops. Fortunately, as it turned out on Thursday, cafes and bars work here all night. You can listen to the tracks and just talk, discuss the day of the festival over coffee or organic cocktails.

Sometimes you even forget to go back to the campsite. It seems that I had two more coffees, and another day and performances not to be missed have already begun.

From the new, lectures and workshops on street art were held in Signal – the masters took into account creativity and trade. And then the artist Alexander Tito and the public learned how to design and make inscriptions on T-shirts, and there was a general plein air with work on a large canvas. For the first time, series and films were screened in the KION online cinema, including one as useful and educational as “Cities of Music”.

Yes, the camps turned out to be far from the main stages, but when they reached the main festival sites, many returned to them only the next day. The spectacle was generally impressive: a dark forest, loud music with bright lights, special effects and laser beams, and people walking among the trees – in luminous costumes – many spectators, on the advice of the organizers, bought reflectors or glow -in- dark suits, usually vests. Sometimes they can be purchased before you sign in to Signal.

It is very hot during the day at the festival. Thanks to the weather and the music. But at the festival, there are two check-in points to get to Signal as soon as possible: in the shade of the trees or closer to the stage.

By the way

There are many stars in Signal. Today, Saturday August 19, the public awaits, for example, the night set by American Ryan Wood, who will perform from one in the morning to half past two. And on Sunday, his compatriot Daniel Bell, from Detroit, will present his minimal electro. The start of their two-hour performance on the Mobius stage is at 11:00.

Russian cult stars will also be at the festival. “DrugDJ” (yes, in a word) has already been played. But on the evening of August 19, the Meadow stage will present: the classics of the 90s Bad Balance, then the sonorous, playful and elegant Komsomolsk. And in the end, the most famous national ethno-rock band in Europe, Teodor Bastard, with shamanic electronica, fascinating timbres, unearthly energy and the enchanting vocalist Yana.

It is already worth going to Signal for them.

Meanwhile

Ticket prices are still very expensive. There are none of these in the open air – a subscription costs 12 thousand rubles. Tickets are not sold on certain days. A place to pitch your own tent at the campsite – 1000 rubles. Be prepared.

But such a rich and diverse program, and such a large number of stars from Europe and the USA, as here, is also nowhere to be found.
