Soviet film director, Lenin Prize winner Tengiz Semyonov, died KXan 36 Daily News

Semyonov worked on the Soviet-American series of the 70s “The Great Patriotic War”, shot the films “Resistance Soldiers”, “Rebels and Pharaohs”, “The Man from Fifth Avenue” and produced many animation projects. In particular, one of the segments of the American anthology “Tales of the Peoples of the World”, the films “The Return of Pinocchio” of 2013, “Moby Dick”, “The Captain’s Daughter”.

Tengiz Semyonov was born on August 5, 1941 in Tbilisi in the family of an operator. In 1972 he graduated from the directing department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography. In 1970-1990 he worked at the Central Documentary Film Studio. In 1990-1993 he headed the documentary making workshop at VGIK, was director and art director of Man and Time film studio. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation – the title was awarded in 1996. Lenin Prize – in 1980.

His wife is the director and animator Natalya Orlova, their daughter is the famous Russian actress Ekaterina Semyonova.
