Recall that in July 2021 there was an accident involving Valeria Bashkirova in the west of Moscow. According to a Mazda driving student, she stared at her phone and accidentally ran over three children who were crossing the road towards Solntsevo. One of the guys was injured, two died.
The incident caused a wide resonance. In court, the girl repented and fully admitted her guilt, amid public discontent on social networks, the court sentenced her to five years in prison in a colony. In addition, Valeria Bashkirova was deprived of her driver’s license for two and a half years.
It was not possible to appeal the verdict to the Moscow city court, and the girl was cut off from society. She served part of her sentence, and in November 2022, her lawyer petitioned the court to replace the rest of her sentence with hard labor. In the first instance it was dismissed, but the appeal coincided with the defense arguments. In addition, the Skopinsky District Court of the Ryazan region recently applied for probation for this type of punishment.
