The Air Europa pilots’ strike adds more than 300 canceled flights in 26 days

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 10:33:12

The Air Europa pilots’ strike called by the Spanish Union of Airline Pilots (Sepla) accumulates more than 300 canceled flights during the 26 days of strikes that their workers have supported since last May 1 and until this Sunday, May 3. July, without having solved, for the moment, the labor conflict that triggered these mobilizations.

The protest, called by Sepla, demands an agreement that puts an end to eleven years of loss of purchasing power “without having to cede labor rights included in the IV Collective Agreement”, began with a four-day strike, which they have followed by two more, one of eight days and the one that ends today, of fourteen.

Without regret agreement to Labor mediation

According to the pilots, the conflict continues despite the attempt by the Ministry of Labor to promote an agreement between the two parties in two meetings held last Wednesday and Thursday, since the company “has distanced itself, making unaffordable requests that led to the resignation to the legitimate right of workers to strike”.

The Sepla has denounced that “the repeated immobility” of the management of Air Europa frustrated the intermediation proposed by the Ministry of Labor to unblock the labor conflict.

The company demanded, to continue negotiating, that the pilots could not exercise the “legitimate” right to strike until September 30 and accelerate the negotiation of the V Collective Agreement, in exchange for not recognizing any of the harming the collective, according to with the union organization.

For Sepla, “it is really discouraging to see how, once again, the business management continues to refuse to find a solution that ends the labor conflict generated by the company’s repeated blockades of the legitimate labor and salary proposals put forward by the workers, after to suffer during the last eleven years a loss of purchasing power”. The organization underlines that, within its commitment to reach an agreement that brings “the long-awaited social peace to the company, it will continue to go to any negotiation space.”
