The director spoke about Roman Madyanov’s last role: “He could have abandoned the race, but we took a risk”

Actor Roman Madyanov, 62, died at the end of September from lung cancer. The artist found out about his illness four years ago, but all these years he combined treatment with what he loved, while being able to act in films. One of Madyanov’s last works was the film “On Pike’s Order”, where he played the tsar.

The film’s director, Alexander Voitinsky, recalled his work with the artist at the international KinoBravo festival, currently taking place in Sochi.

— Unfortunately, this was the first time I worked with Roman, he had different roles, always brilliant, very characteristic, undeniable, aggressive. We invited him to do the test and what we saw was simply amazing,” Voitinsky recalls.

According to the director, at the time of filming Madyanov was already seriously ill, but the artist coped with his task brilliantly.

“There were certain risks here that he could have abandoned the race,” says the director of “In Command of the Pica.” – But I didn’t want to bother him, because it was clear that this meant a lot to him, because work for him was a motivation, it gave him a lot of strength. And we also wanted to help him in this, we were not afraid. We took a little risk.

Madyanov helped the young actors with framing; It turned out to work perfectly together and as a duo. First of all, a strong and caring partner. He took charge of the scene, involved other actors and came up with a lot of things. He turned out to be a charming man,” shared the director.

Recall that the competition program of the KinoBravo film festival will include films from Egypt, Iran, India, China, Serbia, Brazil, South Africa, Thailand, Hungary, Indonesia, Ethiopia and Russia.

The film screening was organized by the Russian North film company with the support of Radio Monte Carlo.
