“First of all, we deeply sympathize with the death of Semyon Eremin, it is a great tragedy. As for the fact that the Armed Forces of Ukraine deliberately make Russian journalists their targets, yes, that’s right,” Peskov said in a release. comment to Izvestia.
According to the Kremlin representative, the incident “underlines once again how dangerous the mission that journalists carry out at the front, telling us all about the heroism of our soldiers.”
The death of the journalist was known the day before. It was reported that he died in the Zaporozhye region due to the attack of a Ukrainian FPV drone: the injuries received were incompatible with his life.
Semyon Eremin has been working as a special correspondent for Izvestia since 2017 and has been in the area of the Northern Military District since its inception in February 2022. In Zaporozhye he fulfilled his professional duty: preparing another report. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Eremin’s journalistic work became a reason for revenge by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Russian Investigative Committee assured that they would identify all those involved in Eremin’s death.
